Calling All Artists!

Project Description:

The goal of this project is to provide Monument signage for our neighborhood, North Park Central. The artwork for this mural should identify the neighborhood by name “North Park Central”  with an inclusive and complimentary style to the surrounding community reflecting a growing neighborhood. The mural locations will be on the perimeter / entry walls located on 7th Avenue at Amelia and Clarendon but is not limited to other key locations if possible. The art will be the same at each location. Funding for this project will be from the Love Your Block Grant awarded to the Neighborhood. We will also rely on community efforts, partnership, sponsors  and donations. 

Proposed Dimension of Mural: 

Each portion of the wall should be contained to the entry wall area. This area is approximately a 6 foot tall wall - 15’ in length at Clarendon and 20’ in length at Amelia.

Project Goal

The goals of the North Park Central Mural project are:

1. To enhance the sense of place for the immediate area.

2. To beautify the streetscape and encourage pedestrian traffic.

3. To reflect community pride.

4. To engage the local community in a lasting creative endeavor.

Mural Process: 

April 5 - 17: Artist applications and artwork submissions from artists in the surrounding schools, neighbors and community will be accepted. **Artist submitting design must include the following: Artist rendering, examples of artwork, proposed budget and possible material donation resources, tools and equipment needed, plan for executions and timeline and resources available to them to help execute the final design.  

April 18 - 25: Submissions will be reviewed and be presented to the community for voting via social media and email campaigns.

April 26: Final artist will be awarded the project and announced.

Proposed Mural Description: 

Imagery utilized in this proposal is meant to convey only a general idea or concept. The wall face will be properly primed and prepped before painting. Images will be approved by mural committee and there will be no logos, words, or commercial imagery in the mural. The mural needs to be vibrant, positive, engaging, and appropriate for all audiences. Religious, political, or commercial works are not eligible for this project. 

Mural will be a  piece of public art for an outdoor environment that reflects the spirit of Phoenix and North Park Central. .

We will engage our local artist community through educational programming including, but not limited to, volunteer participation, meet the artist opportunities, workshops, demonstrations, etc. 

We hope to select a dedicated and qualified artist. Creative supervisor (teacher or parent)  or artist team that can demonstrate artistic excellence while completing this project on time and within budget. Mural will receive applications of anti-graffiti/anti-ultraviolet coating will be provided and applied by the artist according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Adjustments to Design Concept: Individual artist/Artist teams adopting sections should be aware that the Mural Committee reserves the right to require changes to the design to ensure appropriateness for all audiences.
